Nothing much to show yet...but..

A couple of years ago when I was getting back to miniatures, I bought a house and only decorated the kitchen. Then I had to move away from my 1:1 house for nearly ½ a year, and I never really got back to the 1:12 house. The reason is that I never really liked the style, it doesn´t fit with the things I make.

I am not much of a builder, and I never found what I was looking for searching though miniature web page after page. Then I saw Léas blog, and I finally realised: It IS really possible to change the house in a way, you prefer! Thanks Léa!! Take a look at her beautiful blog: http://atelier-de-lea.blogspot.com/

So I have spent the weekend demolishing and are starting to build up again, still inspired by Leá but I am doing this in my own way. I need a place to exhibit all the miniatures, I´ve made during the last years and the gifts, I´ve recieved. They are all calling at me from their little boxes to be collected and shown.

At first I took away all the verandas, trimmings etc. That really made a whole new perspective. Then I started working on the facade, adding sandspartle. This is now drying up, waiting for me to grind to get a more smooth surface and then to paint.

I went to a few webshops to buy stucco, shutters and new doors. I had something in mind and a few items in my drawers, so I think the windows will look about this + shutters + fence in the lower parts of the windows. Do you follow?

Can´t wait to get the materials, I´ve ordered. But still have to consider the colors of the exterior walls and the woodwork. Maybe a touch of powder, or a more clean creme or light grey color?

I have to do something about the roof too. Maybe just paint? I don´t know yet. I will make a new balcony on the top roof too with an iron fence...and...and...

See you soon!

  1. Thank you very much, Susanne. <3
Good luck to rebuild your miniature house, you'll be very happy to have it redone to your taste.
This proves that we can easily modify a kit (especially when we love tinkering).

This house was already very beautiful, as it is. ;)

  7. Yes, yes, yes - you are going to have an amazing place! I have NEVER seen those amazing trims above the windows with the swags on around miniature shops - where did you get them???

I see you have the fishscale roof tiles just like the ones on my big house - it also has never had anything done with it (except that ages ago I ripped out the internal doors to change their positioning - was way harder than than it looked for Lea). I've been looking at it again too and while I'm still undecided whether or not to leave it as it is (a grand house located in Grovenor or Belgrave Square in London) or rip of the columns, etc and turn it into a French country house I haven't yet decided. The greatest problem in my mind is those roof tiles. I've spent many hours on Google looking at the roofing of both English and French houses and the fishscale tiles are definately in the minority even in England it seems and didn't see any on the French houses. HOWEVER it'd always be possible to cover them over with what I see you called 'sandspartle' and then re-tile as Lea did on hers. Have you thought about what you'll do re the roofing? (I see that you are having problems with blogger at the moment - email me your reply if it's easier but I am interested to know what you think about the roofing situation since it is so much on my own mind at the moment).

  8. Susanne, I am so happy to see you working on your 'old' house. The new window turns out beautiful.
I think, Lea gives a new input to all of us, in the best way.
I also was thinking that I would put away all my houses I have made, but now I am also on the way to change them.
I am looking forward to your work.
    Hugs,Nina

  10. Susanne, I am so happy that you have resumed work on your house. I thought about that house so often and always wondered if you planned to finish it. It's so exciting to see you reworking it. I am also very much inspired by the work that Lea does. Those windows of yours are just splendid and so rich looking. I can't wait to see what comes next!

  16. Hello, I am Susanne, and right now I can only comment as anonymous on my own blog!!
Thanks for your nice and encouraging comments. I can tell there is a large renovation process going on a lot of blogs now ;-)
Norma: I wrote to you. I think my house will be without a single nationality. Maybe it´s a french house with nordic accents. Maybe it´s the other way around. Maybe it´s just a Susanne-house, and that is always a mixed style... ;-)
