Signs

I took an hour off from work today. Did I clean the house? Was I doing the laundry? No, No. I was making minis...
I got SO inspired, when I saw the signs that Lena from MiniatureMama had been making (Thanks Lena!), so I had to try it myself...because what would Brocante be without old french rusty metal signs?
I found the prints at The graphics Fairy. The rust is of course made by my magical-shoeshine;-)

  10. Thanks for a your nice comments!
It´s very easy to make the signs. You choose the prints for your purpose fx from The Graphics Fairy and pull them in the size you prefer (these a made in word). Then print on glossy photopaper and cut out. You paint some ordinary cardbord with a glossy black colour and glue the images on. Then cut around the motives just 1 or 2 mm larger than the motive itself. Make a hole with a big needle in each corner. I added the patina with shoe shine in an old brown rusty colour. The shoe shine is the ones with a sponge in the end, that makes everything go very nice and easy. Be sure that you add the patina around the holes in the sign and in the edges, where rust often developes. Experiment a little and decide how old you want the signs to be. You can also make little black scratches with the black colour and a toothpick.
    Enjoy!

  11. Thank you!!! Thank you!!!! I can't wait to give it a whirl. For Halloween, I took many of the Graphics Fairy images, made them tiny, then compiled them into a scrapbook for a Witch's Cupboard. It was so much fun and I love to try new techniques.

  12. Just passing through quickly...

These signs look just great, I saw the images on the Graphics Fairy a while ago and I love what you've done with them. Thanks for the info re using the shoeshine!! I have a couple of metal signs that have a vintage look (although they are newly made and purchased) at the cottage (the real one!) that I bought in Sydney, I like them very much and these little ones are just a cute. I want to try some when I get back to Australia. By the way, thanks for leaving a comment on my blog recently :)
