Making molds for stucco

I am having fun making my own molds for stucco and decorating different things with it. The material for flexible molds, I´ve used is called Siligum and is very easy to work with. There is a lot of videos on Utube showing how. I use self drying clay in the molds for the stucco. The pictures show a lion, I made this way for a collection of mirrors with patinated wooden frames. Couldn´t help myself from adding just one more detail I´ve made for the facade of the french house. It would be nice inside too of course, but I like the personal and maybe surprising touch that this ornament adds to the house. Louise likes it, hope you do too..

Louise nearly finished decorating the bedroom, now that both the new doors and the balcony have been added. I show you a few pictures of the room by night of the room right now. I say "nearly finished", but I guess Louise will continue to move around and add more details no matter what,

she is not a girl of minimalism..

The shoes I´ve ordered from Patrizia arrived yesterday just in time for celebrating new years eve. They are amazing! The black ones are for Annie and the brown ones for Louise ;-)

On the balcony (House rebuild 7)

It´s nice to be off from work, relaxing and spending time making miniature. Now that the calender gifts ended, I´ve returned to my house rebuild project and finished the balcony on the left side of the house and the shutters and stucco around the four windows on the right side. I am sorry the night picture is a little blurred and the camera reveals that there are glue on the wall too ;-(

And the little window under the roof...maybe I´ll paint the filigree black instead...

On the balcony there are just enough space to put two small stools and a very small table. I made the stools from the thing that is around a champagne cork and gave it a lot of patina. The doors will get other handles.

Louise likes the balcony, she plans to have her breakfasts here next summer..

This is my final gift for Annie, a pair of high black stilettos, I´ve bought from Patrizia Santi. Unfortunately they didn´t arrive yet, so I had to improvise and make some photos from the catalogue Patrizia sent me, and some pictures I had of the bag and box from one of my ealier buys.

Todays gift for Annie is a pillow that matches the one I gave her on the 1. of december. The pattern is aubusson style, with drapings, exterior (castle-) gardenwalls etc., but it´s very difficult to catch the details as well as the collected picture on a photo...
I think she likes the style and hope that I am right about that ;-)

I hope that Annie agrees with me when I say that this is faries not angels. You can tell that by their insect-like wings and their small and graceful bodies..anyway this is the advent calender gift for Annie on the 9th of december.
These ornaments can be painted or used as they are, they can also be sanded in a oval shape, I think they will do nicely as stucco on a wall, a mirror, furniture or a fire place..
I really hope Annie doesn´t percieve them as angels..

Pixie party

Being a pagan Annie doesn´t like angels, and I on the other hand am not much of a pixie girl. Too much red I think makes a lot of noise ;-) I thought that Annie might find this little ribbon with funny dancing pixies inspiring - for miniatures, or just for christmas decorations, so this is my gift for Annie today. Display your treasures

Louise did some work on the big closet ment for the dining room today. She want´s it to be a place to show her treasures and special collections - and this time mostly for the dining.

I think the french people calls it an Armorie..

Louise gave it several layers of matte paint, and then gave life to the old worn and darkened pieces of the furniture. The back-inside got a strip of paper from the bedroom walls.

Need I tell, that Louise can´t wait to decorate the closet?

Wallpaper in the bedroom

Today Louise and John finished adding the wall paper to the bedroom walls. It changes the room a lot, Louise thinks. She couldn´t help putting a few personal things into the room to see how things fits together. The shoes are from Patrizia Santi, the pillow, the rug and the snake skin bag are from Petit Brocante, and the tray, the dress and the vanity box is from Gypsy Boudoir.
Next step is the floor and the trimmings along the floor and the ceiling. Then Louise will do some painting on some of the furniture...

Sleeping in the house (house rebuild 5)

Different lights makes different shades of colors all day and night long. Louise took some pictures right after dark too se, if she still like the colors, she saw at daylight, but Louise realizes that she will never get "the right picture".

Louise loves the big progresses on the house. In the weekend the facade was done, today it was the small balcony in the front. The doors is still missing, but Louise couldn´t help adding some bedroom furniture just to imagine how it all could be...so she and John are sleeping in the house without doors just to see..

Facades painted (house rebuild 4)

There are still lots to do, but I am satisfied with the facade color now. I think Louise will be too, this house won´t be too odd in the nabourhood, only a little excentric.

It is very difficult to take pictures of the shades of colors beause I had to use artificial lights, the weather is very dark and grey today. And Blogger has closed down the magnifying function as fare as I am concerned.

Though the facade on both sides of the house has been painted, there is still a lot to do. I need to get four pairs of shutters done for the four windows on the right side and get more stucco, since some of it had been broken in the mail. Then I have to make one large balcony and one french balcony in front of the house, and another balcony on the left side of the house outside the double french doors. And then the doors and the roof...

Louise is wondering (House rebuild 2)

Today some of the materials for the house arrived. Everything live up to the expectations. But..

Louise has been wondering a lot since she ordered the new materials and the craftsmen. The fact is that she can´t find one single house in the neighbourhood with shutters, nor with the patina on the facade that she likes the most. Actually all the houses look very white and clean, at least from an outside perspective.

What would the neighbours think when they discover, that the newdone white facade will not stay clean, will have shutters (also with patina) and that more stucco will be added?

A look a one special house calmes Louise down. This house has a personal expression and a magic of it´s own, without shutters though. She could live there. Maybe it´s possible to have ones own style anyway?

Louise climbs the stairs to the third floor. From the window where the balcony is going to be, you can see the sea. She takes a big breath. This is a beautiful place and in the weekend they will paint the house...

Louise and John bought an old house..(1)

Louise and John have been talking for a very long time about fulfilling their dreams about an old house in classicistic style just outside Copenhagen. Louise is in love with everything French but with a twist, she allways adds her own touch on things and is trying to avoid the temptation to make everything too sweet. They found their house, but gosh it needs a lot of renovation...

Louise and John (mostly Louise in fact) are making plans and while waiting for the craftsmen and materials to arrive, they are taking looks around the house. It is not very big but suitable for the couple who doesn´t have children. Three floors, an additional green house and a couple of balconys.

Louise has been wondering about buing new interior doors but then the couple actually found the original doors at the attic. Once being white with a touch of gold time has now changed them into creme, brown and grey crackled colors. Louise actually doesn´t dare to paint them over, in fact she loves the patina and decided to use them as they are... Different lights changes the colors.

Nothing much to show yet...but..

A couple of years ago when I was getting back to miniatures, I bought a house and only decorated the kitchen. Then I had to move away from my 1:1 house for nearly ½ a year, and I never really got back to the 1:12 house. The reason is that I never really liked the style, it doesn´t fit with the things I make.

I am not much of a builder, and I never found what I was looking for searching though miniature web page after page. Then I saw Léas blog, and I finally realised: It IS really possible to change the house in a way, you prefer! Thanks Léa!! Take a look at her beautiful blog: http://atelier-de-lea.blogspot.com/

So I have spent the weekend demolishing and are starting to build up again, still inspired by Leá but I am doing this in my own way. I need a place to exhibit all the miniatures, I´ve made during the last years and the gifts, I´ve recieved. They are all calling at me from their little boxes to be collected and shown.

At first I took away all the verandas, trimmings etc. That really made a whole new perspective. Then I started working on the facade, adding sandspartle. This is now drying up, waiting for me to grind to get a more smooth surface and then to paint.

I went to a few webshops to buy stucco, shutters and new doors. I had something in mind and a few items in my drawers, so I think the windows will look about this + shutters + fence in the lower parts of the windows. Do you follow?

Can´t wait to get the materials, I´ve ordered. But still have to consider the colors of the exterior walls and the woodwork. Maybe a touch of powder, or a more clean creme or light grey color?

I have to do something about the roof too. Maybe just paint? I don´t know yet. I will make a new balcony on the top roof too with an iron fence...and...and...

Smaller boxes

Boxing

Isn´t it strange, I think I had a boxofobia for almost a year, I couldn´t really persuade myself to make some - and now I am cured just like that. The extra strange thing is that it seems to transform into a boxomania instead. I just want to make boxes and I´ve always loved them. Especially the old worn ones of course, new clean ones doesn´t tell a story.

You can use them for so many pretty things and you know, I like collections ;-)

I enjoy the weekend working on my christmas collection for Petit Brocante. My house is messy, but there are more important things in life than cleaning ;-) I am making a lot of christmas (ball) ornaments in different colors, boxes, pillows, candleholders, topstars and these news, an angel and a bell for the tree. I will update Petit Brocante tomorrow evening with all the new stuff.

Bought some new chairs

In the spring I met Alma & Lia from Vilia Miniature at the Farum Fair in Denmark. They had some great french chairs, but unfortunately I did not buy them in time, they were sold out quickly. So I ordered the chairs with some other lovely stuff, bath products and christmas lights, and it all arrived today. The sweet ladies added a lovely wooded tray for me, thank you! Take a look at their Etsy shop.

On the picture, I´ve added some of my own things, the wooden wreaths along with some green ones made of preserved natural materials. Also a Santa pillow, shutters and a small cow. The christmas stuff shown and lots more are on their way to Petit Brocante, and I think the chairs will get a creme paint and will be used as decorations in the shop.

House arrived

The roof top house came today. It is fine, but also a bit bigger, than I thought it would be. And the doors are on the wrong side too. I had to change the way, the doors open, and I think I will make some kind of french balcony...

I am still working on my ideas for the second floor of Petit Brocante. It looks quite boring as it is now, I agree. Nothing much to show. And not that I won´t admit that I am still missing details on the first floor. What about shelves in the windows fx....? Depressing...

Anyway, I´ve decided to reserve the roof top for the vintage things that have to do with garden, outdoor and the like, and add nature things to make the place green and lush. I actually have a lot of stuff waiting, not having taken pictures of that yet...

And then today I´ve ordered this little room to place in the inner corner to make sure that everything is fine in the winther time also..

It will get a lot of age too, of course ;-) Hope to find time for this work soon...

Tiletorial ;-)

Hello again!

Some weeks ago, I promised on request to show how to make the tile floors, since I was going to make one for Petit Brocante. I finally got there, and took some pictures of my work following the different steps of the work. Hope that makes sense, if not feel free to ask questions...

I use prints of real tiles, an I like them worn and un eaven..

I find the tiles on the internet, try google tiles (pictures of), or use this miniature link, where I found the tiles beneath. You have to copy and paste to make a page in word or another programme to print from..I use glossy photo paper.

Then glue the print to card board (1 mm). Remember to give your prints a layer of matte varnish to avoid the colors to smudge, and let dry. Next step is to cut out the tiles..

Then you have to make a copy of the ground or wall, you want covered, I used a light card board. Glue the tiles onto the card board. Let the glue dry under a light pressure from books or the like to make the surface even. Now to the grouting process..

I use real grout like the one you would use for the tiles in your bathroom. Don´t mix as much as I did on the above picture, I think there is enough for three floors at least ;-) I just add the grout with my fingers, maybe you want to use some kind of tool..

I use the sponge and some water (just a little) to wipe off the excessing grout. Be careful, just remove the most of it, and let dry the night over, you don´t want to ruin the "tile". The next day you can sweep the surface gently again. Then add a layer of matte varnish to seal the surface. And vupti!

...You´we got a real tile floor. But look closely (click to enlarge) at the last three pictures...I actually put too much grout between the tiles, you´ll get a much better result wiping a bit off, to get a little groove. I think this picture of one of my former floors shows this..

Renovation

Did you think that Petit Brocante is only a web shop and not a physical shop in miniature? Well if you did, you were wrong. Maybe it´s because I forgot to show you some pictures. These days Petit Brocante is being renovated.

It needed some new (antique though) tiles on the floor, a new layer of paint on the walls and some interior rearrangements. So the physical shop will be closed for a little while, but you can still order from the web shop.

Heres a sneek peek through the doors and a window. Nothing much in there now, but a lot of new old items will be added, when the shop opens again. I will invite you over to celebrate then..

Just went home from Tilos

I had a wonderful vacation on Tilos, a very small and very beautiful greek island. We spent 14 lazy days there, just relaxing. I found the old Vespa on Rhode on our way home and couldn´t resist it.

I found the small sea shells on a small beach called Red Beach, I was on a boat trip and unfortunately the boat only stopped there very briefly for people to take a swim to the beach and back, so I didn´t have time to make a collection. I didn´t have a pocket in my bikini either ;-)

They ARE in fact miniature, though they don´t look like that on the pictures..

Here I am having lunch in the shadow on our favourite taverna...the cats are hoping that I would accidentaly drop a bit of my fish on the ground ;-)

Experiments in zinc

It has been a while since I had the time to concentrate only a little bit on miniatures, but tonight I had to let go of a little bit of the inspiration, I have been gathered in the time being. I only got to make this french urne in zinc, and I think, I am satisfied with the result. The materials are light metal, paper, beads, acrylics, glue, a punch and a silver marker.

Hello again, now I am ready to show you the rest of the stuff. I have to admit, that I have a weakness for miniature shoes. So when I saw, that Patrizia were coming too, I strongly needed a pair. The matching bag is a gift from Patrizia, so sweet of her.

She was travelling together with Alma and Lia from Viliaminiature, and funny enough we already met at the central train station in Copenhagen. We were a bit uncertain though, only having seen each other on small photos ;-)

I bought a few small things from Alma and Lia, and I knew I had to have this funny little box filled with logos from the famous houses of design, Prada, Gucci and so on. They will be on the next bags, I will make.

The stand of Sylvia Beuker, Sylvias Lutjeboudel was stunning. I couldn´t decide between the kits, and I litteraly lost my under jaw. I ended up with the bathtup and the bed, which I am going to make, when I got some spare time. Later on, Sylvia visited our stand too and brought along a present, the kit to make the cute little haybox and caserole. Thank you so much, Sylvia!

My last buys were 4 identical small bedside tables, they were in light and dark wood, but as you can see, I have not been able to avoid beginning to give them some layers of paint and patina, not finished yet though. It´s my plan also to sell small furniture, since I had som requests at the fair. I bought it from Pernilla from Millimeter, she doesn´t have a website. The sweet sweedish blanket is from Næstved Miniatureklub, which is a local miniature club. The beautiful flower basket, the tray and the french statuets are wonderful gifts from Annies shop Gypsy Boudoir.

At the fair, I bought a lot of very neccessary stuff, and got lovely gifts too. To show you all of it will take 2- 3 posts I think, so be patient..
Unforfunately, I really forgot to take pictures of the other stands being a little too selfoccupied, but I have tried to collect som of the things and took some pictures at home. Please also look out for the update of http://www.dukkehusfestival.dk/ , there will be pictures too.

Take a look at this little nightgown or summerdress. My friend Annie from http://www.gypsyboudoir.com/ made it. We had an agreement, that we could chose things from eachother when the fair was closing, and I was lucky, that no one had bought this. I just adore it. Take a look at the back too...

Annie also made the small perfume atomizers and the powder box...

I love the pots, that http://www.minipot.dk/ makes..I bought a selection, they are so fine, tiny and thin, and I am going to use it for lavenders. Lisbeth who makes the pots also visited our stand, and she told us, that she are going to make Madonna figurines too. I can´t wait to see them!

Big news this year was the stand of the german Miniatureglasbläserei, Peter Böhm. He was working on the stand, creating all sorts of glass one could die for. Of course, I had to own some too. Here I have displayed it on a bedtray, that I got from Annie. Unfortunately Peter doesn´t have a website or a blog, not even an E-mail. But you can find his telephone number on the page of the fair.

Then we met the very friendly german couple Gaby and Rolf, who owns http://www.samlerliebe.de/ , they took a lot of pictures of our stand and the two of us, and we promised to write a little bit about us for their newsletter. They also recommended us to have a stand at the big german fair in Rheda-Wiedenbrück in the last weekend of may, and I think we will do that next year. Thak you Gaby and Rolf for being so supportive!

Mirrors

Still enjoying my time off from work making miniatures in the sun. Today I have been making antique mirrors of all kinds from the smallest mirror suitable for a ladys handbag, to these larger ones ment to hang on a wall. I´ll only show you the last ones this time, they will be listed on Petit Brocante later tonight and they will all be sold at the Farum Dukkehusfestival next weekend.
I think they will look good with these pillows, I made for the same occasion. The picture is a little blurry though.

And I will definately work with this mirror issue in the time to come. So many possibilities..not a lot of time, but a lot of ideas ;-)

I´ve just discovered, that I have 500 followers now, that wasn´t in my wildest dreams when I started this blog in december 2009, nor would I have expected to open a webshop about a year later. I had some problems getting the right colors of the lamp on the photos. I had to take a picture in natural light, so you can see, that he colors are dusty rose pink and dusty green..

Birds and eggs

Spring time is here! In Denmark we had sunshine today and about 7 degrees, not much but enough to make a big difference. Birds are singing. The snow are melting really quick, the light are really sharp too, and people are coming out of their houses putting the sunglasses on.. We are ready!
To celebrate I made some pillows with images of birds and eggs, the major symbols of springtime and the fertility it brings along. The pillows are listed on Petit Brocante.

Garden theme

While Annie has been making stuff in a garden theme for the Farum fair, I did the same thing. Funny how we don´t need to talk about our plans. I am sure she will agree with me, when I tell you that we also have a Boudoir theme with dusty colors and a Shabby Brocante theme inspired by French living with a nordic touch.

Still making things for the Danish dollshouse festival in Farum and of course for Petit Brocante. This time I chose the rusty-golden-vertigree line for the crowns, new stands/centre pieces, lions, angels, crosses, very small frames, french spikes, and the candle sticks. I am enjoying having a whole saturday just for miniatures.

I am still buisy with the french vintage ornamental theme, this time it is metal crowns and crucifixes in zinck with lots of dark patina. I made two sizes of crowns..a large one for (big) kings and a small one for (little) princesses. I will post the same items with a rusty/golden patina later.

The items will be listed on Petit Brocante and displayed at the Farum Fair in Denmark also.

Inspired by the sexy underwear, I made some fames with old pictures of women in erotic positions. Very nice for the special bedroom or the bathroom sensation. And the old pictures are very decent, I think, but that is a matter of how your brain works ;-)

White skates

I remember one christmas as a child, when I got what I wished the most from my grandparents (I actually often did ;-), a band new pair of ice skates, just like the ones on the picture. Boots made of soft white leather, with black "high heels", and steel skates as sharp as a knife. I kept them beside my bed, so that I could watch them when I fell a sleep and again, when I woke up.
Today I got me a new pair of ice skates, just like the ones I had as a kid. Only this time they are a bit smaller and was sent to me from Lotte in Finland. They are perfect! Thank you so much, Lotte, I am preparing your gift in return theese days.

Lucky me, look what nice gifts I have recieved recently.

Else sent me these beautiful bags and pillows as a surprise. Thank you so much, Else, that is so nice of you! Else is Annies mother by the way. Isn´t it nice to have ones mother sharings ones hobbies? It was Else who inspired Annie to get back to miniatures last year, and then Annie spread the virus to me ;-)

The next gift was from lovely Sans in Singapore. She sent me fabric samples, very nice for miniature rugs! She also gave me to words - Layers and Loyalty, I wish to have both ;-) Thank you so much, Sans, for this sweet surprise.

I´ve had a buisy week and not been much on my blogs, but I did make a lot of miniatures nevertheless, I am preparing for the Farum fair. I will show you some of the stuff on Petit Brocante very soon, so look out.

Tiffany lamp for Ana Maria

A long time ago, I promised to make a Tiffany table lamp for Ana Maria along with some books for her green room. To day I finished the lamp, I really hope she likes it. The books on the picture are danish, I will make her some with english titles.

Silver stuff again

I had some problems with my neck, so not much is being done here, but I took some pictures of the things, I was working with before that, continuing the silver line. So here is a vanity tray on a stand and a small (tea)pot. They will be listed on Petit Brocante. Actually I made a lot more perfume bottles, preparing for the Farum fair, and both with silver and golden accents, I´ll take photos of those later.

A little bit of flowers

While waiting for spring (I have to wait for a very long time in this climate), I made some vases and put some cherry branches in it. January and february are months for planning which flowers you will grow in the garden this year, it´s time to buy seeds and dream...

Made a vase with a hope for spring

..Couldn´t help myself making some miniatures in a break between work and unpacking..
So I made a small vase and put a flower onion in it, hope it will bring spring nearer to us. I also made some french spikes for decorating the shabby chic home. It will all be listed on Petit Brocante tomorrow. I had some technical problems, so I will be cleaning the pages there first.

Preliminary approaches to my new workroom

To day I spent a lot of time rearranging my former work room. It is not finished yet, and it still has a too "fresch" and cute look, but I´ll like to show you some preliminary photos.

The houses are such a mess, everything has been thrown around, but I will get to that also in a little while.

What is an almond gift, and what about Annie?

Well, it is quite a long story..

In Denmark we celebrate Christmas Eve on the 24. of december, by eating the christmas meal, singing the carols, and giving each other presents. In my familly (as in many other danish families) we have roasted duck for the main course with potatoes, "brown potatoes", which is caramelized potatoes, pickled red cabbage, and a lovely sauce with red wine and cream. Does that sound odd ? ;-)

The traditional dessert for most danish pople actually has a french name, "Riz a la mande" (" Risalamande" or Rice with almonds). You boil some pudding rice with vanilla corns, vanilla stick and milk, and allow it to cool down and get tasty over night in the fridge. Then you add sugar, almond flakes and whipped cream, and it is nearly ready to serve. Did I mention that we eat a hot cherry sauce for that dessert? Does that sound odd too?

So whats that about the almond gift?
You also have to remember one more thing: The Almond! You have to hide it very secretly in the jar with the Riz a la mande, so that no one will know where it is. On Christmas Eve the person, who finds this single almond, will get the almond gift of course ;-) It could be anything, actually, in recent times it was very popular to make a small pig of marzipan, now a days iy is often a game to make the waiting time for the presents bearable.

So what about Annie and the advent calendar?
I made a small almond gift for Annie, inspired of the good old days. It´s not made of marzipan, but I have given it a golden look, ready to be a part of your christmas decorations collection. For christmas it will be nicely wrapped.

A bird and a mouse

Yesterday this gift came from Irmgard in Germany. I have been admiring her birds for a long time, and asked her, if I could buy one from her. She offered me a swap instead. Lucky me, it is fantastic work, it looks so real and the details are perfect. And look at that sweet little mouse, she sent me as an extra surprise!

Beautiful surprise

Yesterday I found a wonderful envelope in my mailbox, it was a christmas card and a small present from Monique.
She was a customer at Petit Brocante, I sent her a little extra gift, and she wanted to surprise me too. She really did. Look at this small poetry book with extra pictures to decorate the pages with, it reminds me of my childhood, when every girl had a poetry books, and friends, teachers and family were writing there greetings in it often followed by drawings and rhymes like:

Roses are red,
violets are blue,
strawberries´ sweet
and you are too.. (loosely translated from danish)

I still have my old book (Annie wrote in it too in the early 70ties ;-)

I just love it, this romantic feeling of christmas. My christmas is mostly dominated by natures colors brown and green combined with the silvery colors of ice and snow, or the golden colors of fire and sun. It like it to have a little touch of magic and times gone by.

I´ve tried to get that feeling in the selection of christmas tree ornaments, I´ve made. They are all used and aged and can tell a story about many holidays, dreams and wishes come true. Yesterday I spent the afternoon with Annie. We went shopping materials for miniatures as well as some small accents for our large houses, and we had lunch in a nice quiet place, that calls itself a "gourmet café". I had moulles, the french way in an iron pot, yummy. Then we gave each other presents from the Annnie Box and the Susanne Box, just like we use to do. Look what I got from Annie, most of it is from her webshop Gypsy Boudoir. It is all SO nice, pictures don´t do justice. Thanks Annie for a lovely day!

I am so happy to be printed in the new issue (no 6) of Taller de Miniaturas, the spanish online miniature magazine. The article "Pintura - Envejecer y oxidar" (Paiting age and rust) shows "Realización de coronas" (how to make the rusty garlands or crowns), "Realización de stick decorativos" (how to make the flower sticks) and "Realización de candlelabros y adornos" (How to make the candlesticks and ornamental objects).

I had so much fun giving the reindeers patina today. I used gold, brown, green and cobber to get the feeling of old unpolished brass. They will look great on your mantel piece or on a tray with a personal collection of christmas ornaments, I think.
